Because I love pan mee!

One afternoon when we were heading out to Paramount for lunch, my colleague Sotong Hoon, stopped walking and gave me a serious look and said "There are a lot of other things to eat in this world... not just pan mee ok!" And with a smile, I said "Sure. I'll have spicy pan mee today then!"

Because I love pan mee so much, I ate it almost everyday - sometimes at different stalls, mostly at the same stall. Honestly, would you eat pan mee on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday? And have you ever tried eating pan mee for lunch and dinner (at the same stall)? Well, if you haven't then prolly you aren't a pan mee freak like me. LOL.

Hometown fish paste pan mee

Woke up at *blush* 11.30am today and heard a rhythmic sound coming out from my stomach - "guluk guluk pause guluk guluk pause" and I thought I could make a nice song out of it but unfortunately, I don't have any lyrics.

I ended up humming the tune "bangun pagi, gosok gigi..." and then took a bath and spent approximately 30 minutes fixing my hair! You see, I cut my hair yesterday, and I still can't accept the new look today. My colleagues are gonna laugh, definitely :(

As usual, I headed out to have a bowl of pan mee... this time at... hmmm I forgot the name of the place. OMG. It's in Puchong... name of the place is Puteri Mart (928 foodcourt). Well, me and my husband usually have our pan mee here if we didn't travel to Taipan. See google map:

When you're there, look for the Wet Market sign and turn in. The stall's located on the right and it's called Hometown Fish Paste Pan Mee (something different).

Here, I will always order the hand-shredded "ma lat" (spicy) pan mee. Ingredients include: Hand-shredded pan mee, slices of fish paste, spinach and anchovies. Unlike the Taipan one (my earlier post), this pan mee doesn't have the szechuan taste. In fact, it's a little salty. The soup looks a bit clear when served, so be sure to mix it first, if not you'll end up with a very clouded soup at the end of your meal.

And my favourite drink with this pan mee will always be the ice chinese tea.

I'm a loyal fan here

Just like for example, soccer. There's MU fans and Liverpool fans - and I'm the USJ10 pan mee fan. Here is the only place I eat "ma lat" (spicy) pan mee with chilli sauce.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well I visited Uncle pan mee again today and this time, I brought along a digital camera. After eating the family's pan mee for more than 10 years, this is the first time I took a picture! I kept telling myself that it wouldn't look stupid if I took pictures of pan mee.
I arrived at around 1.30pm and took a seat at the very corner of the kedai. I made sure the table was properly cleaned before ordering. Then my favourite "ma lat" (spicy) pan mee was served - I looked to my left and to my right... no one was watching, so I took out the camera and here are the photos!
Ingredients include: Machine-shredded pan mee, sliced mushrooms, pork dices, preserved vege, cabbage and potato leaves. (Note: If the helper is cooking, make sure you order the machine-shredded pan mee and not the hand-shredded one! She tends to cook too long and it becomes really soft, unless you love it that way.)
The fried anchovy is always placed not in the bowl together with the pan mee, but on a separate sauce plate. Reason is simple, so that the fried anchovy will remain crispy and not soggy! Taste really good too when you pick it up with your fingers and munch munch munch on it.
And this is Uncle pan mee's stall. If you're going to this place for the first time, look for this uncle - he's tall, big and he looks like an ex-wrestler with a white hat.
My favourite pan mee
I moved to USJ when I was 12 and there, I fell in love with this super pan mee. Before that, I was eating soup pan mee in Old Klang Road, and then I'm like eating machine-shredded "kon-lo" (dried) pan mee here in Taipan! Aunty pan mee knows me very well, and yes, I've met her entire family and she recently hired a helper too.
Her pan mee is... I would say the szechuan-style pan mee. I've been eating her pan mee for years and years and years and I've watched her kids grow. They're in college now and I'm proud to say that I have played a tiny part in funding their education. One day, Aunty pan mee told me the area is closing down and she gotta move - she handed me a name card. WOW! Instead of asking her a bunch of stuff, I stared at the name card! Aunty pan mee got a name card wor!!! O.o
She moved to USJ2 (her 2nd branch) - the original stall still exists in USJ10 (Taipan) and is being run by Uncle pan mee + helper now. You can find Uncle pan mee's stall located directly opposite the original location at Kedai Kopi Nanking. (Are you confused?) See google map below:
I'm a pan mee fan-si
I've been a fan of pan mee for almost a quarter century now. Well, there are people who are soccer fans, badminton fans, etc... and since I'm not a fan of any sports, I started thinking, and thought that I could be a fan of pan mee! I even have an idea too - to create "I Love Pan Mee" t-shirts (You're laughing? I'm kinda serious though).
Honestly, I've never thought that I would create a blog for pan mee because my husband always say that I have this "3-minute love for everything that I like". Now I'm not gonna debate that but since my Starwarsilike.blogspot.com friend told me that I should get a panmeeilike.blogspot.com too, well... I thought about it and I finally did, except it's called ilovepanmee.blogspot.com :D
All tangled up
My love for pan mee started when I was really, really, really young. My grandma used to take me along with her to the wet market super early in the morning so that I can smell the fresh, foul air of dead fish, stinking prawns, drain water, blood, and rotten vege. Anyway, if I hadn't been there at all, I would not be able to discover a food so great that I just couldn't stop eating till today. I had fallen in love with pan mee. The humble stall was just there, tucked at a corner row along with rubbish heaps. And my favourite back then - the hand-shredded soup pan mee. Yums :D
