A Gift to Star Wars I Like

If you love Star Wars, you're probably a fan of www.starwarsilike.blogspot.com

I used to pester this guy a lot and eventually we were nuts enough to have some sort of a joint-venture. It was fun and interesting (cos I liked it) but unfortunately, the ilovepanmee fans have no feedback... ARGHHHHH (I had the urge to fry u guys back then).

Anyway, one of our colleagues, the bearded one, created an image of Star Wars troopers slurping pan mee. I forgot to post this picture up and finally found it in some folder of mine today. I guess Dennis will freak again, looking at his beloved troopers eating something Oriental. LOL. I sure can imagine the look on his face!

Here's the image:

The Good Green

I had this in mind for some time already - that I'll try at 2nd attempt to make another bowl of pan mee. The first attempt was ok (referring to the post "Oi Sum pan mee").

This time, instead of making those normal-looking pan mee, I've decided to be a little more creative. Perhaps I will post the photos once it's good :D Will be making pan mee with a guy nicknamed Hotei, and I'm sure the pan mee will look and taste absolutely splendid. :D

Right now, the entire project will be a secret - for now... *evil laugh*.

What is Pan Mee?

I can't find a proper explanation when i wiki pan mee.
I hope this little description of mine works well for those who do not have a clue to what is actually Pan Mee.

Pan Mee is a Chinese food. Some say it's a Hakka dish, while some claim that it's a Hokkien dish. But I personally think it's Hakka. LOL.

In Cantonese, we call it Pan Mee: "pan" means flat, and "mee" means noodles. Flat noodles or rather known as Pan Mee, are hand-kneaded noodles. In Mandarin, it's called "Ban Mian". The original way of cooking Pan Mee is by kneading the flour with hands and tearing the dough to pieces (by hand), before boiling. Nowadays people use a noodles shredder, so you have shredded Pan Mee instead of the hand-torn pieces.

I would say that Pan Mee is pretty similar to the Western Pasta, except there are no fillings in the dough. Pan Mee originally is cooked with clear anchovy soup, with added ingredients like Chinese mushroom slices, some fried onions, potato leaves, minced pork or chicken and topped with fried anchovies, and of course, served with chilli paste. Then there comes variety ~ the Dried Pan Mee, Curry Pan Mee, Claypot Pan Mee, etc.

You're Posted! Fan Pic #4

I haven't been blogging for the past um... 3 months :P
This is terrible. And since I have not really eaten any pan mee for the last 3 months, I've decided to feature a fan post. His name is Erik Hang (not sure where he's from) and he has posted a picture of something really unique ~ Dragon Fruit pan mee!

Well... this is really the first time I have heard of it though, but it's really interesting to see purple-coloured pan mee. LOL. I'm not sure where this guy found this purple pan mee or whether he made it himself. One thing's for sure... I have to thank him for submitting this interesting pan mee picture! It has enlightened me on the wonders of pan mee. It can come in different colours, perhaps size and shape too!

Once again, Erik, thanks for sharing your purple pan mee! It looks really good and I'm sure it tastes absolutely fantastic too! :D

Troopers Exchange

The entire 201st legion of the elite ilovepanmee corp were all sardined into its Version 1.0 “min fun” (flour-shaped) spaceship and 3 hours later, the ship docked on the parking bay of Starwarsilike Destroyer. Time was: 00:10, Tuesday.

Jocelyn Soo, who has just received the medal of panmee, stepped forward and exclaimed “OMG, this is so grand! I’ve always watched this on the Star Wars movies but I’ve NEVER EVER seen this like LIVE… OMG OMG! I’m breathless.”

And Vernadium Lee, who was the first to join the elite ilovepanmee corp looked wide-eyed at Lord Sinned, who was there to command his 501st legion of the Starwarsilike troopers.

The hall is just huge, you know, grand, majestic, futuristic and all.

Squeeked Lord Sinned “You are all here for this Troopers Exchange Programme, a little joint-venture with Starwarsilike and ilovepanmee (is that how you pronounce it? Hmmm?) Well, in order to kick start this programme, first, troopers of ilovepanmee must view the www.starwarsilike.blogspot.com blog for information regarding our 501st legion, and I command the 501st legion troopers to do so the same. That is, to take up an interest in pan mee, which is the food of the Orient: www.ilovepanmee.blogspot.com - I assume some of you troopers will master the art of cooking pan mee (is that how you pronounce it? Hmmm?) for me at the end of this programme. Now… mingle away.”

Shown below is Lord Sinned slurping pan mee.

ilovepanmee has 200 fans!

At exactly 7:12pm yesterday [Monday, Malaysian time], Jocelyn Soo became the 200th ilovepanmee fan! This is so possible because (currently 201) people loves pan mee and I'm sure they'll be even more! :P

Just to explain a little about the ilovepanmee Facebook fan page, Twitter and Blogspot. It all began because I always (most of the time) eat pan mee during lunch and then one day, a friend challenged me to create a fan page for pan mee. So I thought, what the heck, let's go all out and try it and see what happens in the end.

I have to admit that the blogging part became a little like a part time job for me on weekends, but it's really rewarding to see people giving some form of response, like comments or even sending in their favourite pan mee pics (so far I have 3 fan pics).

Well, it's all interesting and I kinda enjoy it. I'd love to see how far ilovepanmee can go. And really, a big thank you to all the ilovepanmee fans - without your fan-ship, all these wouldn't happen. Thank you! :)

Kungfu Smooth pan mee

"Hiyeeeak! Bash bash punch punch chop!!! (poor "min fun")
This August, ilovepanmee is presenting to you... KUNGFU SMOOTH pan mee.

And yes, my flour break is over and I'm now back to eating more pan mee again. Um, to kick start this season of ilovepanmee, I've decided to drive a car to this place in Seri Sentosa, Old Klang Road for this special Kungfu Smooth Pan Mee.

Well, I'm not sure what type of kungfu this pan mee is made of, but I'm sure the fella who makes it sure has the rank of a Master :P

Nice huh? I ordered the "dry" kungfu pan mee.

Basically it's hand-pulled.

Look at the length of this pan mee... hmmm... kungfu works! :D

This is the slim pan mee. The description in the menu did not mention "kungfu" though. So I guess this is machine-made.

Meatballs! Should order this too, it's quite nice :)

Mmm... think it's made of sotong + pork or beef? No idea but it's good.

Lotsa trees nearby too.

If you're thinking of aircon, nice cafe, erm... u're wrong. This is really like the "dai pai dong" style pan mee. Eat on the street, taste better :P

If u're looking for a signage, u won't be able to see it. Just recognise those trees.

Price per bowl of pan mee: OMG, i didn't notice it!
Total price for 1 bowl of meatballs + 2 bowls of pan mee + 2 cincau ice = RM17.20
I love pan mee's rating: 4.2 / 5 star

I've got to say this... service is pretty fast too :P

Here's the map and address to this place if u'd like to try:

28, Jalan Seri Sentosa 9A/133
Taman Seri Sentosa
Bt. 6 1/2 Jalan Klang Lama

Eco-cooking!

Ok I know that Earth day was somewhat history to many of us. But today, I’ve decided to let my stomach take a rest from all those pan mee, and talk about being GREEN. Not too long ago, we were all hyped out about being super environmental-friendly to the Earth, like using paper bags instead of plastic bags and stuff like that.

I’m thinking of eco-cooking. Alright, I admit that I do not cook much, and in a month; I prolly cook about 4 times. But think about it, every one of you cook almost everyday right? We all eat, and we talk about eating well and healthy, and believe me, it’s not just the ingredients that make us healthy, but the way we cook as well.

# 1
Ever heard of energy efficiency? The choice of kitchenware is very important.

Induction cooker waste electricity (a big example is me!) I’m not proud of it, which is why I cook 4 times a month now! :P My electric bill made a 110% jump when I used the induction cooker (that time I cook for 2+ weeks).

Try these kitchenware instead!
• Copper-based pans help reduce cook time.
• Glass and ceramic work best in an oven - save time and retain heat.
• Crock pot - slow cooking reduces wastage of energy.

# 2
Use bio-gas! The biogas plants provide clean fuel for cooking and even help prevent environmental degradation!

# 3
Don’t waste water. Think of the dry lands when you’re using water! Leave all the pots, pans, plates, etc to last minutes washing. Wash everything at one go, it’s easier and you save water. Remember to off the tap as well when you are scrubbing those plates!

# 4
I use the plant-based detergent to wash my kitchenware. The price difference from other known brands? Less than 40 cents.

# 5
Recycle. I have a few mini bins at home. One for plastic, one for glass, one for paper and another for everything organic (food for example).

And you know what? Being GREEN begins with purchasing. When you buy something, reject the use of plastic bags. You’ve got hands with fingers, use them, or bring a reusable bag instead!

"Oi Sum" pan mee

I LOVE PAN MEE's very own "Oi Sum" (Love) pan mee. Wow! I amaze myself sometimes. Simply because I never really cook, but when I did cook, I will sure miss out an ingredient or two... and that's the oil missing the other day.

Hmmm... my friends said that this is the most important ingredient in cooking, it's like washing your hair without shampoo. And yes, I did not add in oil when I made that teriyaki chicken some time ago. The best part was I didn't even realise until I took a bite. But it's better than Sotong Hoon's fried fish (which she had fried for 2 hours, seriously).

I even made my very own pan mee noodles!

Er... the measurement for each ingredient... I simply one. Trust your instincts :P

You're supposed to beat the eggs and flour with a blender and then um... knead the dough. But since I don't have a blender, I simply used my hands. This is how it looks in the end:

Cover the dough with a piece of wet cloth for 1 hour (according to some internet info).

I purposely bought this RM4+ rolling pin for my "Oi Sum" dough.

Ta daa... my very own "Oi Sum" pan mee :D

Got chilli also.

I put in a whole lot of ingredients for the soup: Chicken bones, chicken meat, anchovies, wolfberries, white pepper, black pepper, salt, ajinomoto, sliced mushrooms, a bit of "mui choy" (salted vege) and "bak choy" (forgot english name).

Why did I add in salted vege? Interesting yea? Because I thought that was "char choy" (forgot english name too). Hey, my very own pan mee is not bad you know, I like the soup very much! :D

Little Ben Cafe

Taa daa... Little Ben Cafe a.k.a. "Siu Dong Ka" at Kota Kemuning!

And here's Brandom, the cafe manager :D Um... you can always ask him what "Siu Dong Ka" means, cos I'm not telling :P

The first thing he told me was... "Wahhhh u're fat now!" Interesting greeting though. I expected the OMG why did you cut your hair sorta remark. But right after I said "You look slimmer now", he began telling me the pan mee's top secret ingredients.

Hmmm... this modern + Asian contemporary cafe is totally porkless, and what's unique is that they serve healthy* food here. (*meaning that it's not 100% healthy, but at least around 80 - 90% healthy).

Guess what? This is something interesting - CURRY PAN MEE! It's called Curry Sailor Mee and the curry is made of 10% santan and 80% yogurt + low fat milk! So don't expect a really rich curry flavour because it's "healthy food" remember? But I like the taste! :D

Brandom: WHY DIDN'T YOU ORDER THE ORIGINAL SAILOR MEE??? THAT'S OUR SIGNATURE PAN MEE!!! "Er... because I ate that the last time I was here?" Truth is, I'm not a fan of clear soup noodles. I prefer spicy or "kon-lo" (dried) stuff, so I opt for the Dried Sailor Mee this time. It's a bit dry though, so there's a complimentary soup too.

All Sailor Pan Mee come in a set, with complimentary lemongrass drink + fruits + fried anchovies + chilli. Plus, the pan mee's hand-pulled in water!

Chilli's not bad too.

I always drink this "Grape her up" - grape juice when I'm here. Comes with 1 FREE cake. You're seeing 2 cakes in the pic because the other cake belongs to the black coffee. (I don't know how to shoot black coffee. LOL.)

Look! It has real grapes inside!

Cafe's surrounded by greenery. I like!

Outdoor chairs - it's nice to hang out here if it's not too hot.

Cool place indoor.

And Little Ben Cafe is located in Herbaline: A place for facial, massage, nails, hair, yoga and food.

If you are living in Kota Kemuning and you're too lazy to go out, there's always DELIVERY! Just call 1-800-Little Ben Cafe and order! (Nah... I'm kidding, for delivery, you'll have to call 03-5121 0151.)

There are 3 roundabouts - 1st one: 12 o'clock, 2nd one: 9 o'clock and 3rd one: 3 o'clock. By the way, the cafe closes at 5pm, so be there early!

Price for a bowl of dried sailor pan mee: RM7.90 (set)
Price for a bowl of curry sailor pan mee: RM8.90 (set)
I love pan mee's rating: 4.1 / 5 star
